It has to be built like any exterior slab, with the base prep, drainage, and jointing that keep it flat and crack-controlled, and it has to look like an intentional extension of your home, because it is the surface your family and guests will actually stand on. Before we pour anything, we walk your backyard and talk about how you use it. Do you want a clean, modern rectangle off the back door, a sprawling multi-level space for entertaining, a fire-pit area, an outdoor kitchen pad, or a patio that wraps to meet a walkway and steps? The layout, the finish, and the drainage plan all follow from how you plan to live on it.

Finish options, and how to choose

The finish is where a concrete patio goes from functional to beautiful. A broom finish gives you a subtle texture and reliable grip underfoot, and it is a clean, budget-friendly choice. A smooth trowel finish reads modern and minimal. Stamped concrete presses the look of natural stone, slate, brick, or wood plank into the surface as one continuous slab, with no joints for weeds to grow through and nothing to shift out of place the way pavers do. Exposed aggregate reveals the decorative stone in the mix for a textured, naturally slip-resistant surface that hides wear beautifully over time.

We bring samples so you can see color and texture against your actual home, your brick or siding, and your landscaping, before you commit. Integral color, borders, and banding let us tie the patio into the architecture rather than dropping a gray slab into the yard.

Drainage, joints, and the details that protect your home

A patio that traps water against your foundation is worse than no patio at all. We pitch every patio to shed water away from the house and away from low spots, and where a site calls for it we integrate drains or channel the runoff so it goes where it should. Getting the slope right is invisible when it is done well and painfully obvious when it is skipped.

As with every slab we pour, we place control joints so the inevitable curing and seasonal movement happens along planned lines. On decorative patios we lay those joints out thoughtfully so they complement the pattern rather than interrupting it, and we seal stamped and colored work to keep the color rich and the surface protected.

Making it last

A well-built concrete patio is one of the lowest-maintenance outdoor living surfaces you can own. Stamped and colored patios benefit from re-sealing every few years to keep them looking new, which is a straightforward service we are happy to handle. Beyond that, a Golden Paw patio asks for little more than the occasional rinse, and it will not rot, warp, or need board replacement the way a wood deck does.

How we price and schedule your project

Concrete pricing depends on real variables, the square footage, the thickness and reinforcement the job calls for, the finish you choose, how much tear-out and haul-away is involved, and how easily our equipment can reach the work area. Because those factors genuinely differ from property to property, we do not hand out a single per-square-foot number and call it a quote. Instead, a real estimator visits your home, measures, evaluates the site, and gives you a firm, itemized, written price you can rely on and compare fairly.

For most residential projects we can schedule an estimate within a day or two and begin work within a couple of weeks, weather permitting. Spring and fall are our busiest seasons and book up fastest, so the earlier you reach out, the more flexibility you will have on timing.

Every project we pour is backed by a workmanship warranty and by something harder to put on paper: the fact that we are a local company whose reputation is tied to the work. We would rather lose a bid than cut a corner that resurfaces in three winters with our name on it. That is why we build the base properly, spec the mix for our climate, reinforce for the real load, joint the surface to control cracking, and seal what should be sealed.

Materials and the mix we pour

Not all concrete is the same, and the mix matters as much in our climate as the base beneath it. We pour a 4,000+ PSI air-entrained mix as our residential standard, stepping strength and thickness up for heavier loads. The air entrainment is not optional in Central Indiana: those microscopic air bubbles give freezing water somewhere to expand without spalling the surface, and skipping it is a quiet way to guarantee a driveway that flakes apart after a few winters of salt and frost.

We reinforce with rebar or wire mesh sized to the job, cure the concrete properly, and seal exterior and decorative surfaces to slow water penetration and protect against de-icing salt. These material choices are where a durable slab is won or lost, and they are exactly the specifications a bargain bid tends to shave to hit a lower number.

Clean sites and clear communication

A concrete project touches your whole property, and we treat that with respect. We protect the areas around the work, manage the mess that pouring and tear-out inevitably create, and haul away every piece of old concrete and debris so you are never left with a pile in the yard or a dumpster to deal with. When we leave, the site is clean and the only thing you notice is the new work.

Just as important, we keep you informed from the first call to the final walk-through, so you always know what is happening and when. Clear communication is the simplest thing a contractor can offer and one of the rarest, and it is a core part of how Golden Paw does business.
