Concrete questions,
straight answers.
Cost, timing, curing, warranties, permits the things homeowners actually want to know before they hire anyone.
How much does concrete work cost in the Indianapolis area?
Pricing depends on square footage, thickness, finish, and site access, so a driveway replacement and a stamped patio sit at very different points. Rather than a per-square-foot guess, we give a free, firm, itemized on-site estimate so you can compare real numbers. Most homeowners find our quotes competitive with the big marketing-driven companies because we don't carry their overhead.
How soon can you start my project?
For most residential jobs we can schedule an estimate within a day or two and begin work within a couple of weeks, weather depending. Spring and fall book up fastest, so the earlier you request a quote, the better your scheduling options.
What is the best time of year to pour concrete in Indiana?
Late spring through early fall is ideal because temperatures support proper curing, but we pour year-round using cold-weather practices blankets, heated enclosures, and mix adjustments when needed. We won't pour in conditions that compromise the slab, and we'll tell you if waiting a week gets you a better result.
Do you offer a warranty?
Yes. Every Golden Paw installation carries a workmanship warranty on top of the manufacturer's material specifications. Concrete naturally develops hairline surface cracks as it cures; our warranty covers workmanship and structural issues, and we walk you through exactly what's covered before we start.
Do you handle permits and HOA approvals?
Yes. We pull the permits a job requires and can provide the finish, color, and design documentation your HOA or architectural review board needs for approval. Getting this right up front keeps your project on schedule.
Do you offer financing?
Yes. We offer financing options so a driveway or patio project doesn't have to wait. We'll share the details during your estimate so you can choose the approach that fits your budget.
Do you remove the old concrete, or do I have to?
We handle it. Full tear-out, breakup, and haul-away of the existing concrete is included in our replacement quotes you don't lift a thing or rent a dumpster.
How long does concrete take to cure?
Concrete is safe to walk on after about 24 hours and reaches driving strength for passenger vehicles at 7 days. It continues curing to its full rated strength over 28 days, which is the window we recommend before heavy vehicles or trailers.
How long will my concrete driveway or patio last?
A properly built concrete driveway or patio in Central Indiana should last twenty-five years or more. The variable is not really the concrete itself; it is the base preparation, the mix, the reinforcement, the jointing, and the drainage. Work built on a compacted, well-drained base with an air-entrained mix and correct joints lasts decades, while a slab poured on a rushed base can start failing in three to five years regardless of how good the surface looked on day one.
Will my new concrete crack?
Concrete is a rigid material that moves with temperature and moisture, so some hairline surface cracking over the years is normal and not a defect. What we control is where cracks go and whether they become structural. Correct base prep, proper thickness, air-entrained mix, and control joints placed at engineered intervals direct cracking to planned, nearly invisible lines instead of letting it web randomly across the surface. Our workmanship warranty covers structural cracking caused by installation.
Do you seal concrete, and do I need it?
Yes, and for most exterior surfaces in our climate we recommend it. Sealing slows water penetration and protects against the de-icing salt that Central Indiana driveways and walks endure every winter, both of which are major contributors to surface damage over time. Decorative work, stamped and colored surfaces especially, should be sealed and then re-sealed every two to three years to protect the finish and keep the color rich. We can handle sealing on new work and re-sealing on existing surfaces.
Can you pour concrete in winter?
Yes. While late spring through early fall offers ideal curing temperatures, we pour year-round using cold-weather practices when needed: insulating blankets, heated enclosures, and mix adjustments that let concrete cure properly in lower temperatures. What we will not do is pour in conditions that compromise the slab. If waiting a week gets you a materially better result, we will tell you honestly rather than pouring on a bad day just to keep the schedule moving.
How is Golden Paw different from a bigger, heavily-advertised company?
The biggest difference is where the money goes. A company built on heavy advertising and a large sales operation has to fund that overhead, and it comes out of either the price or the work. We are concrete people first, not marketers, so more of what you pay goes into base prep, materials, and craftsmanship, and less into billboards and commissioned salespeople. You deal directly with people who pour concrete for a living and who answer the phone when you call.
What areas do you serve?
Golden Paw is based in Westfield and serves the north side of Indianapolis, with dedicated crews and Google Business Profiles anchoring our three core markets in Carmel, Fishers, and Indianapolis. We also pour throughout Westfield, Zionsville, Noblesville, Geist, Brownsburg, and the surrounding Hamilton, Boone, and northern Marion county communities. If you are near any of these, we can help; if you are not sure whether you are in our area, just ask.

Service-specific questions.
How thick should a concrete driveway be?
For standard passenger vehicles we pour at 4 inches over a compacted base; for heavier trucks, RVs, or trailers we step up to 56 inches with reinforcement. Thickness is only half the story the compacted, well-drained base underneath is what actually prevents settling and cracking.
How much does a concrete patio cost?
Most residential patios land between a basic broom-finish slab and a fully stamped, colored, and sealed design the range is wide because size, finish, and site access all move the number. We give a firm, itemized quote on-site for free so you're comparing real figures, not a per-square-foot guess.
How wide should a front walkway be?
We recommend a minimum of 4 feet for a front walk so two people can walk side by side, and 3 feet for secondary garden paths. Wider primary walks read as more welcoming and photograph better for curb appeal and resale.
Are poured concrete steps better than precast?
Poured-in-place steps are one monolithic, reinforced unit tied to a footing, so they resist heaving and separating far better than precast blocks that can shift independently. Poured steps also let us match the exact width, rise, and finish of your existing entrance.
Does stamped concrete get slippery?
It can, like any smooth wet surface, which is why we add a fine anti-slip additive to the sealer on walkways, steps, and pool decks. Textured stamp patterns also provide more grip than a smooth trowel finish.
Do you work with general contractors and property managers?
Yes a large share of our commercial work is repeat business with GCs and property-management groups. We hit scheduled pour dates, coordinate with other trades, and keep the site accessible while we phase the work.
Should I repair or replace my concrete?
If the base is stable and the damage is surface-level or isolated cracking, repair and resurfacing are usually the smart value. If the slab is heaving, sinking across multiple sections, or the base has failed, replacement is the honest answer and we'll tell you which camp you're in during a free estimate.
Do garage floors need a vapor barrier?
Yes. A vapor barrier under the slab keeps ground moisture from wicking up through the concrete, which is what causes efflorescence, coating failures, and a persistently damp floor. It's an inexpensive step that prevents expensive problems, so we include it as standard.
What is exposed aggregate concrete?
It's concrete finished so the top layer of cement paste is washed away to reveal the decorative stone (aggregate) in the mix. The result is a textured, durable, slip-resistant surface that looks natural and hides wear better than smooth concrete.
